Cookie Policy
A plain-English, approval-gated summary of BrightSpeaker cookies and browser storage.
Pre-launch policy notice. BrightSpeaker is public-facing but still pre-launch. This page is a transparent operating stub until lawyer-reviewed Terms, Privacy, and Cookie Policy documents from BSP-61 replace it. It is not a substitute for district legal review or a DPA (on request).
Cookie categories
- Strictly necessary cookies: authentication cookies may be set by Clerk when school account pilots are enabled. These are required for sign-in and protected dashboard access.
- Preference storage: BrightSpeaker stores this notice acknowledgement in the browser so the banner does not reappear after a visitor acknowledges it.
- Demo progress storage: the current browser demo uses localStorage for practice history, XP, badges, and prompt progress on the visitor's device.
- Advertising cookies: BrightSpeaker does not use third-party ad trackers or behaviorally targeted advertising cookies.
Children and school use
BrightSpeaker is designed for K-5 schools, so COPPA and FERPA review apply before real student deployments. Account-based pilots, managed class entry, or any durable student-data workflow must go through the approved school agreement and privacy review path before use.
Managing storage
Visitors can clear cookies and local storage from their browser settings. Demo users can also clear BrightSpeaker practice history from the history page.
