• No advertising or analytics cookies. BrightSpeaker does not use third-party ad trackers, behaviorally targeted advertising, or analytics cookies.
• Sign-in cookies, teacher pages only: Clerk sets its sign-in cookies only on the teacher sign-in pages (/sign-in and /dashboard). They are required to sign in, and last for the sign-in session. Students never see these pages, and public sign-up is closed.
• Cookie-free analytics, marketing pages only: Vercel Web Analytics counts aggregate page visits without setting cookies. Query strings and URL fragments are removed before events are sent, and it is not loaded on student pages.

What this browser stores

Practice happens in the browser, so BrightSpeaker keeps a few things in this browser's storage on this device. We don't receive any of it. Every key below, with what it's for and how long it stays:

• bs:v2:profiles (local storage): the speakers on this device, each an avatar and the date it was made. No names. Kept until a speaker is deleted or the device is reset.
• bs:v2:profile:<speaker> (local storage): one speaker's practice progress: scores, stars, XP, badges, souvenirs, and a word count for each session. No words. Kept until the speaker is deleted or the device is reset.
• bs:v2:profile:<speaker>:transcripts (local storage): saved words, only if a student turns on “Save my words”. Each session's words are deleted after 30 days, or sooner from the history page.
• bs:v2:profile:<speaker>:quarantine (local storage): practice records that failed a safety check, set aside so nothing is lost. Kept until the speaker is deleted or the device is reset.
• bs:v2:chosen-profile (session storage): which speaker is practicing in this tab. Cleared when the tab closes, so the next student picks again.
• bs:v2:stage-view:<speaker> (local storage): whether a speaker sees the camera mirror or the Spotlight Stage while they talk. Kept until the speaker is deleted or the device is reset.
• bs:v2:world-events:<speaker> (local storage): new stars and souvenirs waiting to be shown on the 3D island. Removed once the island shows them.
• bs:v2:world-tier-cap (local storage): a device performance hint, the 3D detail level this browser handled. No speaker data. Used for 7 days (1 day at the lowest level), then replaced.
• bright_speaker_read_aloud_muted (local storage): whether read-aloud is muted. Kept until the device is reset.
• bright_speaker_celebration_sound (local storage): whether the celebration sound is on. Kept until the device is reset.
• brightspeaker_cookie_consent_v1 (local storage): that the cookie notice was acknowledged, so it doesn't reappear. Kept until browser storage is cleared.
• Older versions saved practice under bright_speaker_sessions, bright_speaker_progress, bright_speaker_progression and bright_speaker_sessions_quarantine. They are moved into the keys above and removed on the next visit.

Children and school use

BrightSpeaker is designed for K–5 schools, so COPPA and FERPA review apply before real student deployments. Account-based pilots, managed class entry, or any durable student-data workflow must go through the approved school agreement and privacy review path before use.

Managing storage

Visitors can clear cookies and local storage from their browser settings. “Reset this device” on the history page removes every bs:v2: and bright_speaker_ key at once.
